As a benefits-eligible employee at the UA, there are many free services available to you from the 5 components of UA Life & Work Connections (Child Care and Family Resources, Elder Care and Life Cycle Resources, Work/Life Support, Employee Assistance Counseling/ Consultation, and Worksite Wellness). Here is a sampling that relates to your health.
The Worksite Wellness Program offers several services to help you reduce your health risk for heart disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases:
Health Screenings
This free heart-health screening can be scheduled and held in your department (for 12 or more participants), or you can sign up for one of the monthly open screenings held at UA Life & Work Connections' offices (1125 N. Vine St.). The consultations at the end of the screening are one-on-one and confidential. More in-depth individual consultation appointments can be scheduled. Follow-up testing at 6 months is provided to those identified at high risk for heart disease or diabetes.
Employee Assistance, Counseling, and Consultation
Employee Assistance works closely with Worksite Wellness because stress and emotions have impact on health. We seek to foster growth, resiliency and effectiveness in the individual and in the work place by providing services to help the "whole person." Services are free to benefits eligible faculty and staff. Consultation and counseling are voluntary, free and confidential (within legal limits). http://lifework.arizona.edu/ea/.
Presentations
A variety of classes are available to bring current nutrition, fitness, and life skills topics to you. They can be offered as a lunch-time series, such as You and Your Health, a 6-week series dealing with body image, nutrition, and fitness issues. Or individual lectures can be arranged for one time presentations, such as Principles of a Heart-Healthy Diet and Current Research: Nutrition and Cancer Prevention. Topics can be tailored to meet the needs of your department. Check the LWC events calendar (top of the page) or the Worksite Wellness events webpage for upcoming presentations.
