Philosophy & Mission

Help when you need it.

You know that life is about more than your job or your classes; we know it, too!

We also know that employees and students have greater satisfaction and success in their work when they are supported as a whole person. After all, life isn’t broken into neat compartments of work, family, health, and personal fulfillment. It’s all happening at once. And while it can feel overwhelming, you don’t have to do it alone.

Life & Work Connections is here to help University of Arizona employees and students gain the resources, support, and resiliency that we all need to thrive in these fast-paced times.

As life offers predictable milestones—birth, growing up, education, relationships, family, aging—work has its own progression: choosing a career, starting a job, training, developing competence, advancement, and the transition into retirement. Life & Work Connections provides lifecycle services to complement the work cycles of UA employees and students.

So wherever you are in the lifecycle—looking for newborn child care, striving to maintain or improve your physical or emotional health, caring for an aging parent, or trying to create a better balance between your work and personal life—we are committed to supporting you.

Our award-winning program is centered around five integrated components, to focus on the whole person:

  • Employee Assistance Counseling/Consultation provides benefits-eligible employees with services for personal problems or when the problems of a family member, co-worker or colleague are affecting their lives or jobs.
  • Child Care & Family Resources provides benefits-eligible employees and undergraduate and graduate/professional students with child care consultations, resources and referrals, financial assistance, and emergency/back-up child care programs.
  • Elder Care & Life Cycle Resources provides benefits-eligible employees and undergraduate and graduate/professional students with consultations, resources and referrals to help in the care of an aging loved one.
  • Worksite Wellness provides benefits-eligible employees with services to assist in maintaining or improving physical health.
  • Work/Life Support provides work/life support to benefits eligible employees by offering consultations, models, and resources for long- or short-term modification of employee schedules or worksites.

Most of our voluntary services are free of charge. We want to encourage and support you as you make healthy decisions about your mind, your body, your family and your workplace. It's your benefit - use it! UA Life & Work Connections is sponsored by the Department of Human Resources, in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Administration, Campus Health, and Risk Management and Safety.
