6 Dimensions of Wellness

Below are brief descriptions of each of the areas of wellness:


The occupational dimension involves personal satisfaction and enrichment in your life through choice of profession, career, and personal performance. The UA Human Resources Department has resources to help you meet your professional goals, as well as the Work/Life Integration Program.


The physical dimension involves taking care of your physical body. Being physically fit, choosing healthy foods, and getting enough sleep can maximize your energy and prevent many chronic illnesses. Avoiding harmful elements like tobacco, excessive alcohol and drugs helps your body be its best without hindrances. The Employee Wellness and Health Promotion Program offers many services to help you be your best.


The social dimension encourages contributing to your community by encouraging healthier living and initiating better communication with those around you. Supporting the interdependence of your community with the natural surroundings gives opportunities to live in harmony with others and with our environment. The Creative Walking for health Pathways can help you keep in touch with the beauty of our UA campus. The Smart Moves initiative includes foods that are environmentally friendly. Our Elder Care and Child Care services can be of help too.


The intellectual dimension encourages life-long learning. As the UA is a first class research university, there are many opportunities to discover new areas of interest. Take advantage of Life & Work Connections’ facebook and twitter accounts, as well as our website, to keep abreast of wellness information.


The spiritual dimension recognizes our search for meaning and purpose in life. Having your actions fall in line with your beliefs and values works towards developing a healthy world view. Pondering the meaning of life for yourself involves respecting the decisions of others to follow their own path. The Creative Walking for health Pathways gives locations for spiritual reflections on the main UA campus


The emotional dimension recognizes and accepts the wide range of emotions that make us human. It includes the ability to develop satisfying relationships with others, as well as enjoy the unique person that you are. Managing your life in personally rewarding ways, and taking responsibility for your actions, will help you see life as an exciting, hopeful adventure. Our Employee Assistance Counseling Program can offer assistance in this area.
