James R. Naughton is a licensed professional counselor and licensed independent substance abuse counselor. A Tucson native and two-time University of Arizona graduate, he holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling with an elective focus on behavioral disorders, learning disabilities, and addiction.
In his more than 20 years in the field of mental health and addiction treatment, James has worked in many facets of inpatient care, including case management, continuing care coordination, family program facilitation, and intensive workshop facilitation for childhood and adult traumas. He has served as clinical coordinator of extended care programs for trauma, addiction, and sexual compulsivity, and as a trauma resolution specialist. He has also trained in two different types of trauma resolution therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, and Somatic Experiencing.
In his free time, James enjoys reading various kinds of fiction, hanging out at local coffee houses, hiking in the Arizona White Mountains, taking leisurely strolls with his dog, cardio and core training at the gym, and traveling to cool northern climates.
