Did you know that aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the United States? It is also one of the leading causes of cancer death among men of all races and Hispanic origin populations.1 Each September in the US, we focus on this leading cause of death to raise awareness and provide support for those affected.
Prostate Cancer Facts
You are more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer if you are 65 years of age or older, have a family history of prostate cancer, or are black or African American. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides evidence-based resources on prostate cancer, including information on common symptoms, statistics, screenings, and treatment options. This two-page document provides you with the essential facts you need to know about prostate cancer and the next steps you may want to take.
Should you get screened?
The short answer is that it is different for everyone. This decision should be made after talking it through with your doctor. In addition to the CDC providing information about prostate cancer screening options, you may be interested in learning more by watching their short video below to see if this screening is right for you.
Screening options
As a University of Arizona employee, various screening options are available to you, some of which can be accessed right where you work.
