In a bustling workplace, finding ways to enhance employee well-being and foster a sense of community can be a challenge. However, Amy Barber, a dedicated advocate for wellness at the BIO5 Institute, has taken significant strides to create a supportive and engaging environment for her colleagues.
One of Amy's standout initiatives, "Take A Paws," was organized in collaboration with Life & Work Connections and Pet Partners of
Southern Arizona. This event invited employees to take a break from their busy schedules and spend time with therapy dogs. Held in the BSRL Building Lobby, "Take A Paws" drew over 50 participants within two hours, highlighting the event’s success. Attendees expressed their enjoyment and eagerly asked about future opportunities to engage with furry friends, underscoring the positive impact of such events on workplace morale.
Another creative endeavor by Amy was the Halloween Costume Contest, where employees were encouraged to wear costumes to work in exchange for party-sized candy treats throughout the day. The excitement peaked at 3 p.m. in Keating Room 103, where an enthusiastic contest took place. Participants, including a team dressed as Scooby-Doo and the Gang, competed for a surprise prize. The fun didn’t stop there; winners received candy rewards and the honor of holding the "winner's torch" until next year's festivities.
Amy also introduced a playful "Baby Picture Day," where colleagues submitted their baby photos for an anonymous display. This engaging activity invited coworkers to guess who was who, fostering laughter and camaraderie. The event was a resounding success, with three participants correctly identifying all 17 individuals featured.
