I promote and organize a monthly social hour in the department as a way for everyone to gather with our Chair and Vice Chair, Faculty, Staff, and Students, in a designated location on the last Friday of every month for a social hour. Everyone is welcome to bring treats if they would like since this is not part of the department budget. This provides a nice break for everyone to catch up with each other, have some snacks, and visit. We aim to do this monthly and have had a nice attendance turnout each time.

This activity was meant to build teamwork and unity after the COM-Phoenix campus returned to the four-day “in-person” work week, as we all returned to the office. It was especially important and nice for everyone to have the opportunity to get to know each other and welcome our new Department Chair, Dr. Chiamvimonvat, and new faculty and staff.

It has been fun for me to plan and work with others to create a friendly, fun environment where we can all take time to step away from our desks and socialize with each other. This brings a real feeling of team togetherness and friendship into the workplace that we all can appreciate and benefit from. It definitely makes a difference, and it is a lot of fun to learn more about each other and grow as a department.

Team Quotes

“The social hour is great because it helps me understand the importance of teamwork and insight to the multiple disciplines of research that faculty and staff have, and it is great to see everyone smile and laugh!”
