One-on-One Counseling through ComPsych
Free, confidential, short-term counseling is available to all benefits-eligible employees nationwide, their dependents, and members of their households through ComPsych.
This support includes:
- Up to 12 counseling sessions per issue per year.
- Extended appointment times, including evenings and weekends.
- A diverse, statewide network of providers allows you to select a provider who meets your cultural, clinical, and location preferences.
- A range of service modes, including in-person, phone, video, and chat options.
- English- and/or Spanish-speaking counselors and translation services for other languages.

Find a Therapist with GuidanceConnect offers several options to help you find the right therapist to meet your needs through their online appointment scheduling option in the ComPsych Portal.

Frequently Asked Questions
When you call, you will speak with a Guidance Consultant, a master’s- or PhD-level intake counselor who will collect some general information about you and discuss your needs. The Guidance Consultant will provide the name(s) of a counselor(s) who can assist you. You can then set up an appointment to speak with the counselor over the phone or schedule a face-to-face visit.
Yes, utilizing Employee Assistance Counseling is strictly confidential. No identifiable information about your participation in the program is provided to your employer.
For routine matters, individuals should be offered an appointment within 5 -7 business days from the day the referral was given. The average time to an appointment is 3 days.
Yes, you can request a specific provider. If that provider is within the network, you can get a referral to that provider. Please note, it does not guarantee the provider has an opening.
ComPsych is constantly expanding its network of providers. If there is someone you would like to see added to the network, please contact Life & Work Connections at lifework@arizona.edu. There is no guarantee a provider can be added, but the university will explore with ComPsych what is possible.
You can call ComPsych and request a different provider. If you have had to consult ComPsych several times for a provider, please contact our office so we can assist.
Yes. You can also access counseling for anxiety, depression, stress, grief, loss , life adjustments and any other emotional well-being needs.
Yes, they are eligible.
They also have access to Counseling & Psych Services (CAPS) if they pay the health and rec student fee. Co-pays for CAPS services may apply. CAPS offers a student discounted rate as an option for all students, but if cost is a barrier for you, please call CAPS at 520-621-3334.
Yes. Employee Assistance Counseling is a confidential benefit for employees, their dependents, and members of their households through ComPsych.
Services renew a year from the time of your first appointment. If you have a new issue, you can get new 12 sessions before the end of the year. ComPsych provides short-term, solution-focused counseling, and some issues may require longer-term care or a higher level of clinical care, available through your behavioral health benefit in your medical plan.
