I am an alumnus of the University of Arizona with both degrees from CALS, and I have been working professionally at the University for almost nine years. I love the community of the University and all the opportunities it has to offer. I became a wellness ambassador for the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences in 2020 with hopes of highlighting the other parts of our working selves and sharing resources that could make a difference in people’s lives. Wellness activities that I’ve been able to facilitate in our college include hosting staff workshops focused on wellness (my favorite has been the Power of Play with Lourdes Rodriguez) and sharing all of the amazing resources from Life & Work Connections in our monthly newsletter, like the Health Impact Program or health challenges. I’ve also successfully captained a Move Arizona team each year and our college’s intramural softball team, which is appropriately named “Other Duties as Assigned.” I feel that any activity, whether large or small, has impacted our staff, and I look forward to finding new ways to incorporate wellness into our workplace.

“Because of the UA Wellness initiatives (the mobile mammogram program specifically), doctors were able to detect my breast cancer SUPER early. With no family history of cancer and being only 36 years old, I barely qualified for the screening.  As a direct result of Arlette’s efforts with Life Work Connections, we were able to detect and resolve the issue years before I would typically begin receiving mammograms.

My kids lost their dad at the end of 2021. I am so happy they are not faced with losing another parent. My family cannot express a deep enough gratitude for Arlette and for the UA Wellness Initiatives.”
