Presented by ComPsych: Understanding Depression

When

11 a.m. – Noon, Sept. 15, 2025

Presented by ComPsych

Many people still believe that the emotional symptoms caused by depression are "not real," and that a person should be able to shake off the symptoms, creating barriers to treatment and recovery.

The Reality: Because of these inaccurate beliefs, people with depression may either not recognize that they have a treatable disorder or may be discouraged from seeking or staying on treatment due to feelings of shame and stigma.

The Challenge: As a result, many people with a depressive illness never seek treatment, although the vast majority, even those with the most severe depression, can get better with treatment.

What You'll Gain:

  • Understanding of symptoms associated with depression and how to recognize them
  • Knowledge of possible causes of depression and how it develops
  • Information about treatments, including medications, psychotherapies, and other effective methods

Intensive research into depression has resulted in the development of medications, psychotherapies, and other methods to treat people with this disabling disorder. This workshop will provide evidence-based information to help reduce stigma and encourage appropriate treatment.

Important for anyone wanting to understand depression, those supporting someone with depression, and individuals seeking accurate information about this treatable condition.
